Victoria's Got a Lot Going On Right Now

October snuck up on us fast, but honestly? It arrived with a packed social calendar. Whether you're into live music, outdoor fairs, or curling up (metaphorically) with 50 of the world's best authors, this week in Victoria has something for you. Here's what I'd be pointing guests toward right now.

🎶 Music & Live Performances

Skerryvore at McPherson Playhouse

Around October 9th

Okay, this one has me genuinely excited. Skerryvore — widely regarded as Scotland's best live act — is coming to McPherson Playhouse. If you've never heard them, think Celtic folk meeting rock energy in a way that makes you want to dance whether you planned to or not. McPherson Playhouse is a gorgeous, intimate venue downtown, easy walking distance from Ocean Island. Don't sleep on this one.

Break Out West

October 1–4

Canada's music industry showcase, Break Out West, is happening right now — it's the kind of festival where you stumble onto your new favourite Canadian artist before anyone else does. Multiple venues around the city, lots of late-night energy.

13 Concerts This Month

All of October

If you're staying with us for a few days and want to build a music itinerary, this round-up of 13 October concerts has you covered — The Zolas, Dune Rats, Skerryvore and more are all on the list. Something for pretty much every taste.

🌽 Weekend Outings

113th Luxton Fall Fair — Langford

October 2–4

This is the real deal — 113 years of celebrating Vancouver Island's agricultural roots. Livestock, local produce, fair food, the whole thing. It's out in Langford, so budget some travel time — BC Transit can get you in that direction, or ask the front desk about the easiest way to get there. A proper local experience that tourists rarely stumble onto.

Vancouver Island Brewfest

This weekend

Vancouver Island's brewers are gathering for a brand-new Brewfest — craft beer, local flavour, and a genuinely fun outdoor setting. Check the link for current details and ticket availability.

📚 Culture & Community

Victoria's Week-Long Literary Festival

All of October (week-long)

50 authors are descending on Victoria for a literary festival — and that lineup includes Ruth Ozeki, which is genuinely a big deal if you're a fiction reader. Events are happening at venues around the city. Check the festival's website for the full schedule and to grab tickets to the sessions you want.

Japanese Canadian Monument Opening

Late September / Early October

A new monument honouring nearly 25,000 Japanese Canadians opened in Victoria this past weekend — a meaningful addition to the city's public landscape. The opening was also livestreamed for those who couldn't attend in person. Worth seeking out while you're here.

🎬 Free Fun

Free Drive-In Movie Nights in Saanich

Throughout October

Yes, free. Drive-in movie nights are coming to a shopping centre in Saanich this October — you just need to register your car in advance. It's a genuinely fun, no-cost evening out. Check the link for dates and how to register before spots fill up.

Plan Your Week

For the full picture of everything happening around the city right now, Victoria Buzz's weekend round-up is always a solid starting point.

Not sure how to get to any of these, or want to know if Ocean Island has deals with any local partners? Swing by the front desk — we're happy to point you in the right direction and make sure you don't miss the good stuff while you're here. 🍂
